The Game:
This sandbox is unlike any other. Make huge fights with no restrictions at all. Would you like to watch 10,000 hens battle a Roman army? Yes, of course. Want to watch 11,000 Medieval soldiers battle alongside a company of US soldiers from World War II? The amount of carnage you can accomplish in Epic Battle Simulator is simply endless. Play around with a vast array of different units. Everything from knights, orcs, trolls, and yes, even chickens, to Roman centurions and medieval warriors! This game’s primary goal is to provide the player complete control over his actions. We chose not to restrict the number of units in combat for this reason. Would you like to witness a combat involving 100,000 units? For most PCs, we don’t advise going over 10,000, but since it’s your CPU, feel free to experiment! Additionally, you can take on the role of any unit in the game, rallying allies and giving them commands as you get up close and personal to help turn the tide of a huge fight!
The Technology:
Sadly, there aren’t many engines that you can just throw 10,000 characters into and expect decent results. For this reason, I spent months developing the most potent crowd rendering method for the Unity engine. Each character’s specifics don’t really matter when they’re acting on their own and advancing the interests of their team as a whole. Every everyone chooses their own route and makes their way through challenging situations. I didn’t stop there, though! I required a more dynamic lighting solution than what the Unity engine offered because of the expansive, open spaces. Thus, I created my own dynamic lighting engine for global illumination. This makes bounce light fully functional in real time. What is meant by that? This implies that every gleaming piece of armor reflects its actual surroundings, and every dazzling surface lights its surroundings and influences the lighting as a whole.
