An unidentified virus strikes Chernarus, a post-Soviet nation, turning most of its citizens into frantic infected. The solitary objective of each of the 60 players on a server in the brutal, real, open-world sandbox game DayZ is to survive for as long as possible, by any means necessary. You don’t receive any flimsy advice, waypoints, integrated tutorials, or assistance. Every choice you make counts because there are no save games or extra lives, so every error could be fatal. You start anew and lose everything if you don’t succeed.
In DayZ, going on scavenger hunts and exploring the vast open world never seems safe because you never know what’s around the next corner. Intense, nerve-wracking times where you feel very real emotions can readily arise from hostile player encounters or from simply enduring bad weather. Conversely, connecting with a kindred survivor in DayZ has the potential to create a lifelong bond.
